Ian Deas has been appointed as the inaugural Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Students and Director of Student Leadership and Engagement in the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students (ODUS). Dean Deas emerged as the candidate who can bring innovation and growth to the department’s work with student organizations in the years to come.
In this new role, he will have broad oversight of student organizations registered with ODUS. ODUS believes that the undergraduate student experience is the cornerstone of this University, and in this role the assistant dean will oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of policies and systems that guide their work. Dean Deas will also facilitate, expand, and strengthen both existing and new programs focused on developing student leadership, and engaging the greater University community in efforts to educate students about leadership development as an integral part of Princeton’s liberal arts education. He is also charged with identifying trends in student life and developing strategies to ensure that Princeton’s student organizations are aligned with larger trends across higher education.
Dean Deas was previously Program Coordinator in ODUS, where his duties included working closely with Dean Tom Dunne to advise student organizations, with daily oversight of the group’s financial transactions, and serving on various committees, including the Projects Board, the Student Group Recognition Committee, and the Commencement Committee. He is also a member of the ODUS communications team, specializing in the use of social media platforms.
Dean Deas will assume the new position effective immediately. Please join the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students in congratulating him on his new role.
