Justin Smith has been appointed as the director of student life for Forbes College, succeeding Olivia Weiner, who accepted the position of dean and director of residential life at the Cranbrook School in Michigan.
Dr. Smith has served in various roles at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Most recently, he has been the director of residential life and housing, overseeing residential facilities, budget and staffing. He worked closely with campus partners to support students in distress, manage student conduct processes, and develop protocols and best practices to enhance the student residential experience. Dr. Smith has served on NSU’s student care team, focusing on early intervention with students at risk. He collaborated with NSU’s dean of students, public safety staff and Title IX coordinator to develop preventative training and educational resources for students and staff. In addition, he has been an engaged University citizen, serving on numerous committees and task forces and participating in a number of professional organizations.
Prior to his service at NSU, he served as a residence director at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA, overseeing the staff and daily operations of a first-year residential community of 800 students.
Dr. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida, an M.Ed. from Valdosta State University and an Ed.D from Nova Southeastern University. He brings a wealth of relevant experience to the director of student life position which will serve him well as he works to support the students in his charge.
