Candace Brendler named Outdoor Action Progam Coordinator

Candace Brendler joined the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students as the Outdoor Action Program Coordinator. She officially joined the ODUS staff May 15th.

Candace completed her Master of Science in Sports Recreation & Leadership at James Madison University. As a graduate assistant at JMU, Candace worked with outdoor programs including the Madison Orientation Adventure Trip.  She has taught outdoor leadership and wilderness first aid and supervised student employees including climbing wall staff, rental service staff, challenge course facilitators, and trip leaders. Candace coordinated special events and oversaw equipment and safety compliance at the University Recreation Center. She also held a graduate internship at West Virginia University working with their Quest First Year Trips program managing their outdoor orientation programs over the course of last summer.

Prior to her graduate program, Candace served as a middle school science and math teacher in an Expeditionary Learning School in Colorado and at an international school in Thailand. She has years of experience guiding outdoor trips in Colorado, Utah and Maryland including whitewater rafting, kayaking, and backpacking. Candace is a Wilderness EMT, first aid instructor, whitewater kayaking instructor, and top rope climbing instructor.
